The Alphabet of Makeup: BB Creams and DD Cream

The Alphabet of Makeup: BB Creams and DD Cream

Written by: Katelyn Kennedy

The world of cosmetics has recently been hit with a new trend: creams that have multiple benefiting factors not seen in traditional foundation. BB creams (and now DD creams) are the latest trend.  As consumers, we always want our products to do more and so the BB cream was made. These “Beauty Balms” have hydrating, perfecting, and protecting qualities along with the color coverage of a light foundation.

Now I have been always been a believer in thick, heavy foundation. I used to coat it on like paint. But as I have gotten older, I realized I need to protect my skin and prepare it for its long journey ahead. So I have been won over.

There are multiple BB creams on the market as of today. How am I supposed to know which one is best? So let’s do some quick research on BB creams:

  • MAC: re-texturizes, primes, SPF 35, 3 shades
  • Estee Lauder: evens skin tone, antioxidants, oil-free hydration, SPF 35, 2 shades
  • Clinique: hydrates, primes, antioxidants, SPF 30, 3 shades
  • OFRA:  moisturizes, primes, anti-aging silk peptides, Aloe Vera, Vitamin A, Vitamin E, Vitamin C, avocado oil, almond oil, jojoba oil, chamomile extract and shea butter, flower extract to reduce bacteria, SPF 15, 3 shades.
So obviously OFRA’s BB cream wins. Hands down. It has more vitamins, more skin benefiting oils, and the anti-aging peptides while giving you great moisturizing coverage.

Now for all of those traditional foundation lovers (me included), OFRA Cosmetics now has the newest DD (Daily Defense/Dynamic Do-All) Cream. The cream is buildable! This means that it will provide you with more coverage than the BB cream, but you still get all the benefiting factors. The DD Cream offers light-diffusing brighteners, antioxidants, vitamins, and anti-aging properties. Still have doubts this is perfect for you? There are 10 shades available so you can find the exact shade needed to match your skin.
