How to Spot Fake Makeup

While knockoff makeup is nothing new, it recently came to the OFRA Team’s attention that counterfeit versions of our famous liquid lipsticks are being sold. We wanted to take the time to give our lovely beauty consumers some helpful advice on how to protect themselves from knock off makeup sellers. Cosmopolitan put out a great article last year on this topic and suggested using the three P’s: Packaging, Price and Point of Sale to spot a fake product. Read our tips below!

Can you spot the fake?

In the above photo, we displayed a side-by-side comparison of a real OFRA long-lasting liquid lipstick in the old packaging (left) and a knock off (right).

It’s all in the details. As you can see above, the real packaging is slightly smaller and has a flat cap with no indent.

A very obvious characteristic of this particular knock off is the bottom label. OFRA Cosmetics places a silver sticker at the bottom of each liquid lipstick including the shade name. You can confirm our authentic shade names HERE

Our long-lasting liquid lipsticks retail on our website for $19.90 because it is a high-end product made of top quality ingredients. Fraudulent sellers usually price their products outrageously low which should immediately alarm beauty buyers. Remember: If a deal seems too good to be true, it probably is.

Point of Sale

Left to Right: authentic HauteLook promotional packaging, authentic old packaging, authentic current packaging and the counterfeit on the far right.

Many counterfeit products are sold by independent sellers on sites like Amazon. Purchasing directly from our website is the surest way to receive an authentic product. We do partner with distributors who sell our products both in the United States and many international countries. You can view our official international distributors list HERE. If you would like to verify a USA distributor, please contact and our customer service team would be happy to assist you.
