Met Gala 2018: “Heavenly Bodies: Fashion and the Catholic Imagination”
The historical Metropolitan Museum of Art, better known as The Met, houses over 5,000 years of art from every corner of the world. Religion has been a lifelong influence from the beginning of art history and this year’s gala theme brings that dialogue to life between fashion and the masterworks of religious art. The Met Gala is the most prestigious fashion event of the year and probably the most sought-after event. “What is the Met Gala?” some might ask, it is an annual fundraising event for The Met’s costume institute in NYC. The guest list is super exclusive and the tickets? Forget about! They can be as much as $30K, but its all for a great cause right?
This year's theme aims to focus on what is called “Catholic imagination” & how it has engaged and influenced the creative approach of artist and designers alike. A delicate subject, to say the least, it is interesting to see the way fashion has interpreted this subject into designs created by many that come from a Catholic background. Check out these A-listers with a side by side of the inspiration behind the designs:
